For this month's blog, I'll be talking about the campout we had a few weeks back. We went out to Sasakawa Scout Camp to do a hike. The main purpose of the campout was to prepare for summer camp at Tres Ritos, New Mexico, where we will be hiking miles and miles at ten thousand feet ... I think.... that's what I was told... but anyway, our hike at Sasakawa was only about five miles. Maybe the hike at Tres Ritos will be more difficult, all we did at Sasakawa was walk in a big five mile loop. It was fun though... the guys got good practice going around water, backtracking, sleeping three to a one-man-tent (IE: me, Quinton, and Austin). We also had practice with eating out of one bowl
(I'm sure the parents have heard enough already), and eating light.
I'm told the newer guys where really good at taking the big tents down and packing up camp (they stayed in base camp while we went on our trek), whereas the older guys who went on the hike basically relaxed on Sunday since it only takes one man and about a minute to get packed with tents ready to go and everything. So, all in all, I think we're prepared for summer camp.
